TPC Seasonal Loan Helped my Family Recover from a Hard Situation Years ago, and has helped me to grow my business continuously ever since
Ms. Ty Yorng has been able to buy agricultural machinery to ease her farming activities.
About 1.5 km from Kbal Spean market, in Ta Nou village near the Vietnam border lives the family of 57-year-old widower Ty Yorng.
Ms. Yorng has 5 sons and 5 daughters. Currently, Ms. Yorng lives with her 20-year-old married daughter, her son-in-law, her 16-year-old single daughter, and her grandchild. The rest of her sons and daughters are also already married and live in separate homes.
“My husband and I were farmers for 40 years. Our household income depends only on rice farming. These days, I hire labor force to farm rice in our 10 hectare productive land.” She said.
Ty Yorng has been a Thaneakea Phum client for 8 loan cycles with no late payments. She uses the loan to buy fertilizer, pesticides and other farming inputs.
“I don’t remember the first loan amount, but now I just request a renewal for my US$ 3,500 loan. The last one was disbursed several days ago” she said smiling.
“My family had a hard time about seven years ago. My husband [Mr. So Salout] got sick and rice productivity greatly decreased at the same time, which made it very hard to pay our outstanding debt with ACLEDA bank” she recounted.
“After he [her husband] passed away, my son and I worked hard in the rice farm. Luckily, after the low harvest year, productivity increased for the next several years.
Within two years, we could pay off all debts and had some money left to marry off my son” she continued. Ever since obtaining a loan to overcome hard times, TPC has been Ms. Ty Yorng’s partner ever since.
In addition to earning US$20,000 annually from their 10-hectar land (farming 2 times per year), Ms. Ty Yorng’s family earns income from different sources such as fees from plowing, goods transport, water pumping, and battery recharging.
Ms. Ty Yorng shows the house she recently re-built.
“I use the TPC loan to buy fertilizers, pesticides, and other inputs for farming. Usually, I do this with the requested loan so that I can repay the loan very timely” she said.
“Last year, I built this new wooden house, which cost about US$7,000. The previous house was very old, and I was always afraid that roof tiles could fall on us” she described.
“I would like to thank to Thaneakea Phum for giving me the loans with fast and friendly services which allow me to better manage my cash during farming time.” Without TPC’s services, Ms. Ty describes, it would have been very hard to overcome their hard situation some years ago, continue growing their farming business and improve their quality of life.
